I like Dave Winer and relate to a lot of what he says, so I regret that I won’t be going to WordCamp Canada in Ottawa. But truth is, while I used WordPress for a long time, I long since moved away in favour of full static sites (like this one). So WordCamp just isn’t in the budget this year. However, I know a lot of people who are still heavily involved in WordPress, know they read this and think they should go.
Funny story about Dave Winer though. I don’t know the man so it’s not one of those kinds of funny stories, but as an example of his impact on me, this link blog is a Scripting News ripoff. He wrote an outliner one time that totally changed how I write and I’ve been a stronger writer, less prone to random deviations.

I think people will find over time that I am more receptive to the perspective of an independent developer trying to co-exist with a dominant vendor, having spent much of my career in that role.
